Indirapuram: Coming down heavy on encroachers

Ghaziabad police and Ghaziabad Development Authority's enforcement cell cracked down on illegal hoardings and encroachments in public spaces around the residential areas of Indirapuram on Monday.

Earlier on Sunday, in a meeting with Sujit Pandey, IG Meerut zone, residents of Indirapuram had complained about encroachments around societies, which cropped up even after repeated removal drives by the civic authorities. The IG had then assured residents that encroachment drives would be started right away and the problem solved in 15 days.

Speaking to City Spidey, YN Chaudhry, head of the GDA enforcement cell, said that this drive was not limited to squatters, temporary vendor stalls and kiosks, but also included all kinds of permanent and temporary encroachments in public areas.

During the drive, GDA removed all kinds of billboards, hoardings and uprooted steel frames of advertisements from commercial areas around Jaipuria Sunrise Greens. "We are going to continue the drive until the problem is permanently solved. "Our aim is to make Indirapuram encroachment-free," added Chaudhry.

Alok Kumar, president of FedAOA, told City Spidey that encroachments had been a long-standing problem for Indirapuram residents, especially because they kept cropping up in different areas. "The drive will be successful once the GDA covers all of Indirapuram," added Kumar.
