Noida: Residents of the city, especially Noida Federation of Apartments Owners association (NOFAA), came out with an idea of reviving the practice of cycling and revamping the cycle tracks.

They said that practice of cycling should be promoted to bring down the levels of pollution in the city.

They said that the Noida Industrial Development Authority, the agency responsible for developing infrastructure, should take steps to revive the existing 46 km long cycling track in the city. Length of the cycle tracks should further be increased through the green lung of the city.

The federation said that around  60 percent of the total population of Noida work in the city. It also said that residents should be motivated to use cycle for going to their work.

"If they switch to cycling, there would be a drastic change in pollution levels. It would not only help the pollution levels to come down but also reduce the traffic jam on the roads,” the federation added.

Rajiva Singh, president of the federation who is a passionate cyclist, said that cycling is beneficial in many ways. He said it helps to maintain better health and saves money as it does not require any fuel.

The federation appreciated the Delhi model under which it was proposed that all metro stations in the National Capital would be connected through cycling tracks.

The federation shared the idea with Ritu Maheshwari, chief executive officer of Noida Authority, who too appreciated it. She said that the authority too is planning to do something on the line of Delhi's proposed model.

Meanwhile, the authority is constructing 60 e-cycling stations connecting markets and residential pockets with metro stations.
