New Delhi: To combat day-to-day challenges of practicing in a government-run hospital, the resident doctor association (RDA) of Lady Hardinge Medical College started 'Sashakt' campaign to hone self-defense skills of doctors and medicos.

The two days workshop started from Wednesday. Campaign will spread in other medical colleges as well. Senior doctors appreciated the move of the RDA.

Dr Shivaji Dev Burman, Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) said, “We witnessed many incidents where attendants attacked doctors. There were incidents where doctors were assaulted by relatives of patient. It happens more often in government hospitals. Now, the doctors will be equipped to protect themselves during such attacks.”

Senior doctors, paramedical staff and students were taught about techniques to protect themselves.

This kind of campaign will also be done at Safdarjung Hospital, Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
