New Delhi: Security has been beefed up and Section 144 imposed in Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh area in the wake of communal riots in northeast Delhi which resulted in the death of several people.

The Hindu Sena had earlier called for a gathering on March 1 to clear the protest site at Shaheen Bagh stating that the Delhi Police has failed to clear the road blocked for more than two months.

While the group had yesterday called off their protest, heavy deployment of police personnel has been made in the area as a precautionary measure.

People have been told not to gather even as Section 144 of the CrCP has been imposed in the area.

“People are informed that Section 144 of CRCP has been imposed here and it is requested that permission for any gathering is not allowed. Violation of this may invite legal proceedings,” the Delhi Police directive stated.

Several women have been holding a sit-in protest at Shaheen Bagh since December 15 against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizenship (NRC).
