New Delhi: Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Harsh Vardhan informed that 66 people who came in contact with a coronavirus patient of Delhi are being tracked. He confirmed 28 positive coronavirus cases in India.

The minister was speaking at a press conference here to update the media on COVID-19 on Wednesday in Nirman Bhawan.

Addressing media persons, he said, "One positive case of Delhi, who has recently returned from Italy, transferred the virus to six of his relatives. Roaming around in the city, the patient went on infecting others unchecked.

"One person from a group of Italian nationals who came to India on February 21, much before we were screening people from Italy, tested positive for coronavirus. He infected 16 other Italian nationals and one Indian who was accompanying the group," disclosed Vardhan.

He informed that a team of his ministry had placed all the 66 people who came in contact with an infected patient of Delhi under the scanner. Some of his relatives were there in Delhi, they later travelled to Agra where they were found positive for the virus.

This was the time when Italy was not in the high-risk zone area.

Harsh Vardhan said, “We are also trying to set up a laboratory in Iran with the help of experts. We had a meeting regarding this last evening.”

The ministry, he said was closely monitoring the situation and is keeping a tab on all those who came in contact with the coronavirus patients. People in the six-km radius of the spot where the patients went are being screened.
