Gurugram: Over 80,000 women have registered themselves to participate in the upcoming all women’s state level marathon which is schedule on March 8 to celebrate the International Women’s Day. This marathon will be flagged off by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar from Gurugram's Cyber Hub.

While giving information about the event, the Principal Secretary of Sports and Youth Affairs Department and Special Officer of Chief Minister OP Singh said that the marathon would see a record breaking participation of women and It will be historical. Over 50 women from various fields including sports, art and others have been made the brand ambassadors for this marathon.

Some of the prominent names include Padmashree Arjuna Awardee and Khel Ratna Deepa Malik, Olympian Judoka Aarti Solanki, International Gymnast Kavita Saini, Taekwondo player Geeta Yadav, International player Muskan Deswal, Pooja Yadav, Seema Bisla, Bhim Awardee Dr Poonam Taneja among others.

Singh said that International Women's Day is celebrated for the success of women and to bring equality in the society.

He said that the women's marathon is being held that day only because the marathon is a community sport in which everyone participates but not the spectators. 

He added that behind this event is the vision of the Haryana CM, who wants to work for the development of human beings along with the improvement of infrastructure.

Elaborating on the security measurement during the marathon, he said that complete security arrangements have been made at the venue of the Women's Marathon on March 8. 

“1,500 police personnel will be deployed and monitoring will also be done with drones and CCTV cameras. Adequate arrangements have been made to keep the traffic system smooth so that no inconvenience is cause to anyone,” he said.
