Ghaziabad: The Health Department here found the first positive case of novel coronavirus in Ghaziabad on Thursday. The patient is a 57-year-old man currently residing in Raj Nagar Extension of Ghaziabad, officials informed.

The man, along with his family, was admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital in New Delhi on Wednesday after they complained of cold and fever. His blood samples were sent by the health department to the RML for tests on Monday night itself.

The blood samples of the patient's family will be sent to the RML for tests. Meanwhile, they are kept in isolation at MMG Government Hospital in Ghaziabad. The patient runs his own business. The department has also kept his three employees in isolation at their home.

The officials confessed a little delay in tracking the patient as he was not found on the address they received from the headquarters in Lucknow.

"His address showed that he lived in Vijaynagar but we found him in Raj Nagar Extension," an official from the health department told CitySpidey.

The health department said that they had put 153 people who recently travelled to coronavirus affected countries like China, Italy and Iran between December to February under scanner. Of them, 144 were quarantined and blood samples of 9 people were sent for the test.

"Seven people were tested negative for the virus while one person was found positive today. The report of one remaining suspect is still awaited," informed chief medical officer NK Gupta.

CMO Gupta also said that the health department will now trace the persons the patient met after coming from Iran. "We will put them under scanner as well," he added.
The suspect whose report is awaited lives in Indirapuram of Ghaziabad and was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi on Wednesday after he complained of cough/cold to the department.

Meanwhile, the district administration has set up an isolation cum screening ward in Haj House comprising 500 beds. People travelling back from the coronavirus affected countries will be kept here for observation, officials of the district administration informed.
