Noida: The first-ever Holi celebrations planned by Amrapali Zodiac Social Welfare Association (AZSWA) was cancelled in view of the ongoing coronavirus scare in the Delhi-NCR. Amrapali Zodiac is a residential highrise society in Sector 120, Noida.  

A three-day celebrations were planned by the AZSWA on the occasion of Holi. The event was going to be the first joint celebrations after the NBCC appointed contractor took control of the society.

“Only Holika Dahan will be performed on March 9 now and all the other gatherings have been cancelled,” informed Balwant Singh, an active resident of the society.

As per the schedule, for March 8, a female group dance, male group dance and Kavi Sammelan (Gathering of poets) was to take place while March 10 was dedicated to music followed by lunch.

Joginder Singh, the President of AZSWA talking to CitySpidey said, “We have incurred financial losses because of the cancellation of event but nothing is more important than the well-being of the residents”.

He added that a fair was also planned where 2,000 plus people would have participated. It now stands cancelled. Most of the resident welfare associations in the city have cancelled their Holi events.

Notably, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has sent out a memorandum advising the state agencies to avoid mass gatherings or possibly postpone them till the coronavirus outbreak subsides. 

They have also instructed that if any mass gathering is taking place, the state should take necessary steps to guide the organisers on precautions to be taken.
