New Delhi: On the appeal of Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) , more than ten thousand Holi events, which were planned by different trade associations across the country, have been cancelled.

The appeal from CAIT came in after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said no gathering will take place on the occasion of Holi to avoid spreading of coronavirus.

Talking to CitySpidey, CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal said that besides cancelling Holi event of traders, more than 20 thousand social events all over the country have also been cancelled. The fear of coronavirus coupled with appeal from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged traders and other section of society to cancel the events.

Holding events at festivals particularly on Holi is a regular feature of trading community all over the country. This  festival fosters brotherhood and harmony among the people.

But this year, the coronavirus has gripped the entire nation with lot of fear and has badly impacted the domestic trade.

Prominent verticals like mobile, consumer durables, FMCG products, pharma, toys, builders hardware, footwear, spare parts of auto sector, spare parts of machinery, gift articles, watches, confectionary, readymade garments, cloth fabric, furnishing fabric, kitchen accessories, electronics and electrical items among others have been severely impacted.

While the traders fear a further loss in business and the consumer fears surge in prices of commodities. The market has already flourished with increase in rates due to festivities with the halt in supply chain, the situation will aggravate further.
