Noida: Indraprastha Villa, a residential society in Sector 61, was awarded for achieving the goal of zero waste society by the Indian Pollution Control Association (IPCA) recently.
Few societies of Noida were given awards for converting their wet household waste into organic compost.
The best performer of the year award was bagged by Indraprastha Villa. Several other societies including Sunshine Helios in Sector 78, Saket Dham in Sector 61, Residents Welfare Association of Sector 23, Billabong High International School in Sector 34 and Park View Apartments in Mayur Vihar Phase 3 were given awards for their efforts to recycle and treat organic waste.
These societies have been converting their household waste to manure using aerobin.
Talking to CitySpidey, a resident of Indraprastha Villa said, “The aerobin can produce 100 kg of compost from 400 kg of wet waste and we use this compost in the society's green area.”
In the last two years, the IPCA has been promoting and installing composting bins for disposal of waste in the residential areas of Noida and Delhi. The bin with the capacity of 400 kg scientifically converts wet waste into compost in a period of 60 days which can then used in the green covers.
Ashish Jain, Director, IPCA told CitySpidey that after the bins are installed, our team provides training to the people living in the society including the domestic helpers and garbage collectors on how to segregate waste. The entire process from household bins to the manure being made is explained.
