Greater Noida (West): Under an initiative for women’s empowerment, 20-year-old Anshika Satendra, a resident of La residentia here, was made Assistant commissioner of Police (ACP) Noida for a day.
Anshika is an international pistol shooter and has won a gold medal at the world championship. She aims to become a professional shooter and do her country proud. She also has a keen interest in working in the police department someday.
She has been taking training for pistol shooting for the last six years from her father.
Anshika's father, Satendra Kumar, served in Navy for 27 years and took a voluntarily retirement last July. He is a shooter himself and has been practicing it since 1994.
Talking to Cityspidey, Kumar said that the move by the UP government and Noida commissioner has been very encouraging. This not only gives boost to women’s empowerment but also sends out a clear message that the police is for the people.
During the day on duty, Anshika took charge as an officer and went around the malls and metro station of Sector 18 to see the law and order situation around the area. She spoke to women to know their problems, the report of which she will submit to the officials.
Anshika is doing bachelor's at Allahabad University and recently won a bronze medal in a national championship held from December to January in Bhopal. She represented Uttar Pradesh at the championship.
Following her steps, Anshika's younger, a student of class 12, wishes to become a shooter.
The family originally belongs to Hapur and has been living in the Greater Noida for some time now.
According to her father, the one-day stint as a police officer has been very encouraging for not just Anshika but for many other girls. He said she was overwhelmed by all the respect she received and might sit for civil services in near future.
