Alcohol protects from coronavirus; myth or reality?

New Delhi: Drinking alcohol can neither protect a person from coronavirus nor it can kill the deadly virus. Spraying alcohol or chlorine all over your body will not kill virus that has already entered your body.

The clarification comes in the wake of speculations on the social media that drinking alcohol can help kill the deadly virus. On the contrary spraying such substances can be harmful for eyes and mouth.

Dr KK Aggarwal, President Confederation of Medical association of Asian and Oceana (CMAAO), Heart care foundation of India (HCFI ) and former National President IMA said, "Both alcohol and chlorine can be useful to disinfect surfaces but they need to be used under appropriate recommendations.”

Cleaning your hands frequently with alcohol-based hand sanitizer or washing with soap and water can protect you against the deadly virus.

“One will not get infected with the virus by consuming chicken and meat if they are cooked at a temperature of 100 degrees Celsius,” Dr. Aggarwal added.
