More than 24 hours have passed since a 65-year-old resident of Samachar Apartments in Mayur Vihar Phase 1 Extension was found murdered in his flat, but the police is yet to find any leads.
The investigating officer present at the site told City Spidey that they have seized all CCTV cameras and entry registers. “Three different teams of the crime branch are investigating the case, but we are yet to make any breakthrough,” the officer said on condition of anonymity.
A police source said that two women working as maids in the complex are being viewed as the main suspects as of now. He further added that the people living in the society have different versions to offer, and nothing is certain yet. “Unless we solve the case, we can’t reveal the details of the investigation. We are examining the murder from all possible angles, and hope to crack the case soon,” he said.
The victim, Vijay Kumar, a retired government official in the central health department, was found on the floor of his bedroom in a pool of blood yesterday. His daughter, Ambily Vijay Kumar, a senior producer with the Rajya Sabha TV, was the first to find her father in this condition.
“After attending my office meeting around 11:30 am, I tried calling my father on his mobile to tell him that I was on my way home, and would receive my kid from school. After getting no response from him, I went to his flat. I found the door ajar. I entered the house and saw that he was not in the drawing room, where he usually is for most of the time. So I went to check the bedroom and found him lying in a pool of blood,” Ambily told City Spidey.
According to the police, the room had been ransacked. A relative, whose name is also Vijay Kumar, confirmed that a 32-inch LED TV, Rs 10,000 in cash and an ATM card were missing from the house.
The victim, who hails from Kerala, was living with his wife Vasundhara, an income tax officer, in Flat No 129 on the third floor. His daughter stays in Flat No 38, hardly 100 m away.
They had shifted to Samachar Apartments some four months back. A relative told City Spidey that Kumar earlier lived in Pandara Road. He had bought the Samachar Apartments flat about six months back.
