Noida: Bad odour, fear of getting diseases and ruining of the ecological system have pressed the residents of 7x sectors (Sector 74-79) to get in action and seek help from the Noida Authority.
As per the residents, the drainage lines of 7x sectors have not been completely connected to designated places. As a result, the drain water gets discharged in open plots of 7x sectors or the other adjoining sectors (i.e. Sports City land of Sector 79, Sector 116, Sector 112 and Sector 115).
Roya, a resident of Sector 79 said, “The water that is let out in these plots are static. It causes stink in the entire vicinity triggering health problems.” She said that the stagnating water will boost growth of water-borne bacteria, viruses and protozoa, which will spread in societies of the sectors and nearby villages.
The situation worsens during rains and the chances of mosquito breeding becomes higher. Sanwarjeet Dasoundi, a resident of Gaur Sportswood in Sector 79 told CitySpidey that 30 cases of dengue were reported from his society.
He said, “When the entire world is talking about hygiene, we are living in the most unhygienic environment. Not just the bad odour but vulnerability to illness increased many times because of the open disposal of drainage water.”
“The open accumulation of water is not just damaging the ecological system of the sectors but also contaminating the ground water,” said an environmentalist Ashish K.
The residents of the area have been approaching the Noida Authority in person, on their Jan Sunwai portal and by writing mail. They are also tweeting about the water accumulation for the last one year but they allege that no response came in from these government agencies.
A resident has also written to Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) few weeks ago and he is awaiting their response on the issue.
Meanwhile, CitySpidey spoke to Mukesh Vaish, Senior Manager Work Circle 6 in Noida Authority. He said, “Connecting the drainage in these developing sectors is our priority, and the authority is working to fix the glitches in the process as soon as possible.”
Citing two major problems which have delayed the work. Vaish said, firstly Sector 79 has an irrigation drain passing through it but we cannot make a cut there as the designated place to connect the sewage is at Barola. All the lines have to be connected to the sewage system in Barola. Secondly, there are gaps in the drainage system. Not all the drains are connected or have not been built as 7x is still a developing sector.
He anticipated that the authority will try to connect the drain lines to the main drainage before the rainy season this year.
