Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Coporation (DMRC), which has 264 stations covering a total distance of 360 kms, has intensified cleaning in all its trains and stations in wake of coronavirus outbreak. 

“The practice has been further intensified in the wake of the recent corona virus outbreak with special emphasis on locations like hand railings, train doors, token Vending machines (TVMs), Passenger Emergency Alarms (PEA) lifts & escalators etc. where hands come in direct contact,” read the official press release of DMRC

All the metro trains are cleaned thoroughly everyday at 12 Metro train depots located across the entire network before they are put to passenger services. Besides, trains are also cleaned after every trip at its terminal stations. Housekeeping teams keep the stations clean round the clock. 

The following activities are carried out by DMRC to ensure cleanliness of the highest standards in and around the Metro stations and trains 

24X7 regular cleaning of Metro Stations

DMRC carries out mechanised cleaning of metro stations 24X7 which include scrubbing, wet cleaning of floor, concourse, platform, passages, stairs, station control rooms, ancillary building areas, doors, window frames, shutters etc

Cleanliness inside trains during revenue hours on mainline

Specially trained additional housekeeping staffs are deployed im two shifts at terminal metro stations of all lines to clean the floor and seats of metro trains during revenue hours. 

Special cleanliness drives at Metro stations

For upkeep of stations and to ensure cleanliness, special cleanliness drives are carried out at major stations which receive high footfall. 

Intensive cleaning of parking areas

Parking areas are cleaned regularly to ensure cleanliness. Apart, weekly intensive cleaning is carried out during night on every Saturday at each parking lot. 

Resources involved in execution of above activities

Use of Eco-friendly chemicals and high standard equipments

Cold water high pressure jet, battery operated walk-behind automatic scrubber dryer, automated vacuum cleaner, steam cleaner, automatic escalator cleaners are being used extensively for cleaning purpose.

At Train Depots

All metro trains are cleaned regularly at the depots everyday before they are put to use to passengers. 


Mass Sensitization

Delhi metro staff has been sensitised and guidelines regarding do's and dont's have been circulated to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Do's and dont's in both English and Hindi regarding the virus are also being run on digital screens at major stations like Rajiv Chowk, Kashmere Gate, Central Secretariat, Chandni Chowk, New Delhi etc.
