Samachar Apts murder: Suspect maids still at work

The murder of Vijay Kumar, a 65-year-old resident of Samachar Apartments in Mayur Vihar Phase 1 Extension, yesterday has left residents stunned — more so because of the alleged involvement of two maids, who came to work even today.

However, the investigating team of the crime branch, Delhi police, is yet to confirm the maids’ involvement. Both the suspects go by the same name, Poonam. The identity cards, issued by the Samachar Co-Operative Group Housing Society - to which City Spidey has access - bear only the first name, Poonam. The maids work in a number of flats - 120, 126, 128, 130 and 131, among others.

City Spidey discovered that both the maids came to work yesterday evening. Kumud Upadyay, a resident of Flat No 126, right below Flat No 129, where the murder took place, says, “Poonam, 47, came to work even yesterday evening.” Ayushman Pandey, one of five PTI journalists living in Flat No 128, right next to 126, confirmed the same. He said, “Poonam has been cooking for us for the past the two years. She cooked for me yesterday evening while the police were investigating the case.”

Anju Gupta, another resident, said the other maid, also called Poonam, is 29 years old. She worked at her apartment both yesterday and today.

A security guard at Gate No 3 of the society had informed the RWA office yesterday that a suspicious-looking woman, dressed in jeans and a T-shirt, had exited the gate with her face covered. However, NP Radhakrishnan, president of the RWA, rubbished the claim. “That was just an assumption. We checked the CCTV records and no such person was seen leaving the society through Gate No 3.”
