New Delhi: To take stock of the preparedness of the administration to contain the spread of the deadly COVID-19 (coronavirus) in the National Capital, Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Anil Baijal held a review meeting with officials of health department of the Delhi government. He discussed with them the arrangements for quarantine facility in Delhi government-run hospitals.

The L-G chaired the review meeting in the presence of Delhi Health Minister Saytender Jain on Saturday. During the meeting, Secretary (Health & Family Welfare) made a detailed presentation regarding arrangements of quarantine facilities in Delhi for the passengers returning from COVID-19 affected countries.

An official said that establishment of quarantine facilities, as per the laid down guidelines from the Centre, were discussed in detail. It was informed in the meeting that Delhi will prepare quarantine facilities for approximately 1,400 persons at Police Training Schools, Jharoda Kala and Wazirabad."

As per the official, these facilities will be run by a concerned District Magistrate in association with the Department of Health and Family Welfare and Delhi Police. It was decided in the meeting that the Delhi Police will provide security and Department of Health and Family Welfare will provide healthcare facility at the isolation facilities.

The official said if needed in the second phase, DDA Flats at Narela will be prepared with quarantine facilities and required infrastructure to accommodate around 4000 persons for quarantine.

Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), the public transport department of the Delhi government has been directed to provide buses for the transportation of passengers from the Airport to quarantine centres.

Speaking on the occasion, the L-G stated that the strategy should be to contain the disease and break the chain of transmission in order to prevent further spread to new area. 

"This would include geographic quarantine, social distancing measures, enhanced active surveillance, testing all suspected cases, isolation of cases, home quarantine of contacts and social mobilisation to follow preventive public health measure," said Baijal.
