New Delhi: Moving a step further to contain the spread of COVID-19, the Delhi Government, on Monday, put a ban on a gathering of more than 50 people in the National Capital.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal banned a gathering of more than 50 people at any function including social, political, cultural, religious etc. till March 31. However, the government has exempted marriage functions from the ban.
The Delhi Government has also put a ban on all spa centres, gyms, night club etc till March 31. The Kejriwal led AAP Government has already closed cinema halls, swimming pools, schools and colleges in the city.
The move came after Kejriwal held a review meeting with the district magistrate (DM) and other health officials under the Delhi government.
"Gyms, nightclubs, spas will also remain shut till 31 March. Other gatherings that involve more than 50 people in any social, political, cultural, religious and family function will not be allowed. Weddings have been excluded from but we appeal to people to postpone them if possible," Kejriwal said.
Addressing a press conference, the chief minister said that the municipal corporation commissioners have been asked to set up mobile wash basins so that people can wash their hands more frequently. Hand sanitisers will be put at entry and exit points of buildings.
Kejriwal said that the government would take a call on closing malls in a day or two. The government has also started disinfecting cabs and autos free of cost at bus stations.
"I appeal to people that the government is taking steps on their part but we need the support of the public to make this successful. There are countries where the virus is out of control. We need to stop shaking hands with people. We have got more than 500 beds ready. We are trying to quarantine people who have been in contact with infected persons. We urge people to enforce this strictly," Kejriwal said.
With complaints about its quarantine facilities, the government has booked three hotels for people to stay there in case they are unhappy with the facility. Kejriwal said the government is tying up with hotels including Lemon Tree and Ibis where they can pay for the facility.
