Gurugram: The Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Limited (GMCBL) to induct 47 new buses to its fleet by the end of July this year. At present 153 city buses are plying on 19 different routes in the district.

The decision was taken in the sixth meeting of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) which was held under the chairmanship of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on late Monday evening.

During the meeting, the city bus service was discussed in detail and the issues related to determining the city bus routes were also reviewed.

GMCBL Chief Executive Officer Sonal Goel apprised the chief minister about the routes of some buses which have been changed after discussion with public representatives and RWA members in view of the convenience of the public.

Goel said the city bus service which was operating till Bhondsi was extended to Sohna after the demand of the people. Changes have also been made in the routes of buses which run only for women.

"We have started the city bus service to Delhi and Faridabad which is getting quite a good response. About 2 crore passengers have travelled in the city bus service which was started in the year 2018. Suggestions have also been invited by the citizens regarding improvement in city bus service so that positive changes can be made as per the expectation of the people," Goel said.

In the meeting, Pataudi MLA Satyaprakash Jrawta demanded the city bus service be extended till Pataudi, following which the chief minister directed GMCBL officials to extend the bus service up to Manesar to Bilaspur Chowk.
