Ghaziabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced “Janata Curfew” on March 22 (Sunday) as a preparatory exercise for social distancing which has been advised to check the spread of coronavirus outbreak.
PM Modi asked people to stay indoors from 7 am to 9 pm. He urged people to abide by it.
“No one should leave their home and assemble in the neighbourhood during the Janata Curfew. However, people needing essential items can go out,” PM said.
Continuing his address to the nation, PM Modi appealed people to ring bells, sound sirens and clap to applaud the people maintaining the essential services in the country at 5 pm in the evening.
“Coronavirus has put the community in danger. It has affected more nations than the world war,” he said.
Stressing that there is no cure for the coronavirus, PM urged people to remain healthy.
He said, “Social distancing is critical. We need to avoid the gatherings and should stay at home. If you feel like roaming outside, you should remind yourself that you are putting the lives of yourself and your family in danger,” said PM Modi.
Since the PM made announcement, people have been reacting to his imposition of Janata Curfew on Sunday.
A resident of Gaur Sportswood in Sector 79, Noida, Sanwarjeet Singh said, “I support our PM in saluting and encouraging the millions who are working day and night from last two months in serving others at hospitals and airports without taking care of themselves.”
“On March 22, I will be part of Janata Curfew and I will stand in my balcony at 5 pm. I will clap hands and ring the bells for 5 minutes to regard the community servers,” he said.
Few residents pledged to participate in the Janata Curfew and digitally shared their pledge. "I, Monika Srivastava, as a citizen of India, pledge to stand with the directions given by our PM," wrote a Noida resident.
