Greater Noida: A 31-year-old resident of Sector Alpha I here is the city's first coronavirus positive case and the district's sixth. He has a history of traveling to Dubai and Switzerland.
"The man returned from Dubai on March 18 and his test reports turned out to be positive for the virus on March 21 (Saturday),” said Anurag Bhargav, Chief Medical Officer, Gautam Budh Nagar.
His swab sample was sent to Lucknow where it has been tested positive, Bhargav added.
The area (the sector) where he lives has been closed for two days following the confirmation and the sanitisation process will be carried out. The District Magistrate has ordered sealing of all the blocks including housing societies of sector Alpha-1 from Sunday 10 am to March 24 and has instructed the residents of the area to stay indoors.
He along with the five other cases of the district are undergoing treatment at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Kasna area of Greater Noida.
In a span of two days, India has seen a drastic spurge in the number of cases of COVID-19. As per the Indian Council of Medical Research -ICMR's 6 pm release on Saturday the number of positive cases stood at 315. Till Saturday, some 16,021 people have been tested for COVID-19 in India. But the number rose to 341 by 10 am on Sunday.
