Ajnara Gen-X family bears Covid stigma, thanks to a rumour on WhatsApp

Ghaziabad: Ajnara Gen-X, a high-rise in Crossings Republik, has become popular in the social media for a dubious reason i.e. COVID-19. Grapevine is doing the rounds in WhatsApp and other social networking sites that a family here, along with their maid, is infected by the dreaded virus.

What’s intriguing is that the information is false. CitySpidey came to know that none of the family members is infected by coronavirus.

Pooja Shrivastava, a resident of the society, recalled that a lady contacted the maintenance staff and shared her suspicion of having COVID-19.

"Later, when we persuaded her to contact the CMO, she declined to do so as she thought how could she get it she does not have travel history with the infected countries or was in touch with the people who have been to such countries,” recounted Pooja.

She said the lady had just cold and fever. However, she kept herself in quarantine as a precaution.

The woman had returned to the society only a few days ago from Bhopal where her husband is posted, claimed her neighbours.

A message seeking helpline number of health department was posted on a WhatsApp group. This could have fed the rumour. "It was written there that the woman has suspicion of having infected with the virus. People took it otherwise and further spread it as a confirmed case."

Speaking to CitySpidey, CMO NK Gupta informed that no confirmed case of COVID-19 is found in the society.

"The rumoured family does not have a travel history to any COVID 19 infected country. We monitored them and found that the woman is suffering from headache and flu which is seasonal. No need to panic," he said.

"In fact, Ghaziabad does not have any COVID-19 case currently. All the confirmed cases have recovered," added Gupta.
