Various parts of Gurugram hit by locust attack

Gurugram: Huge swarms of locusts have been spotted in various parts of the Gurugram city on Saturday morning. Following the locust attack, the locals sprang into action with utensil noises and loudspeakers to shoo them away.

The locusts were spotted at Sector 5, DLF phase 1, 2, 3, MG Road, Sector 104 and various other parts of the city. On Friday, locust swarms had entered in the Mahendergarh district and some parts of Rewari district in Haryana.

Anticipating such attack, the city administration on Friday issued an advisory to residents to keep their doors, windows, balconies closed as a precautionary measure and asked to make sound by beating utensil, cans, plates and drums to ward off locusts.

The swarms were seen in several localities at 11 am, following which, locals started sharing videos and pictures on various social media platforms.

Dinesh Vashisht, RWA President of Sector 5 said, “We have asked residents to make loud noises so that locusts don't settle down through sound vibrations and flee away. We have urged the residents to keep their doors and windows closed as a precaution.”

Echoing the similar sentiment, Ajay Kalra, a resident of DLF-2 said, “I have never witnessed such a thing in my life, thousands of insects are flying over the city.”
