New Delhi: As per the health department, Delhi recorded 2,520 fresh coronavirus cases taking the total tally to 94,695 on Friday. 59 more patients succumbed to coronavirus in the last 24 hours. The total death toll has now reached 2,923 in the national capital.

At present, there are 26,148 active cases, while 65,624 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far.

The Union Health Ministry said that the early detection and timely clinical management of COVID-19 have resulted in better daily recoveries. The recovery rate crossed 60 per cent on Friday.

The authorities have conducted 5,96,695 tests in the national capital so far. Testing was ramped up in the month of June.

The positivity rate declined to 10.4 per cent on Friday with only 2,520 of 24,165 samples testing positive. It was 30 per cent in the second week of June. The positivity rate is continuously going down in the last eleven days. 

After the government’s nod, the government and private hospitals had started testing for COVID-19 using the antigen-based method. The Delhi government had started rapid antigen testing on June 18. Till Friday, it was confined to containment zones. Now, it has been expanded to other areas.

On the other hand, in the biggest single day spike so far, India registered more than 20,903 on Friday taking the total number of cases to 6,25,544.
