New Delhi: Delhi reported encouraging figures on Saturday with a significant decline in daily number of cases, number of daily deaths and number of active cases. On the other hand, recovery rate increased painting an optimistic picture for coronavirus situation in the national capital.

This has happened at a time when the nationwide figures are contrarily soaring unabatedly. On Saturday, the country reported highest single day spike in number of cases.

The daily number of cases was 1,781 on Saturday, down from 2,089 on Friday. It dropped below 2,000 mark for the second time in past two weeks. On Saturday, it was lowest in 31 days period. Delhi reported 34 deaths in last 24 hours. It was 42 on Friday. The fatality rate is now 3 per cent.

The number of active cases has now gone below the 20,000 mark. There were 19,895 active cases in Delhi on Saturday, down from 21,146 on Friday. 

A total of 87,692 patients have recovered out of the total 1,10,921 cases in Delhi. The recovery rate is now close to 80 per cent in the national capital. India’s recovery rate stands at 62.39 per cent. 

“The interventions at six crucial points — enhanced testing, home isolation of asymptomatic and mild symptom patients, faster ambulance service, quick hospital admission, easy hospital bed availability, and enhanced ICU capacity — have started showing results,” read a statement by the government.

As per reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the efforts of Delhi’s authorities in containing the pandemic. During a high-level meeting, he asked for replication of the steps taken in the national capital at other places in the National Capital Region which fall under different states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan.

India reported record 28,637 fresh infections on Saturday taking the tally near 8.5 lakh mark. Out of the 8,49,553 cases, 5.3 lakh have recovered, while there are nearly 3 lakh active cases. India is now third most coronavirus affected country in the world behind United States of America and Brazil.
