Contrary to grim country figures, coronavirus situation gets better in Delhi

New Delhi: The daily coronavirus cases declined for second straight day on Sunday in Delhi as the nationwide figures continued to soar. Delhi reported 1,573 cases on Sunday, down from 1,781 cases on Saturday. However, India recorded the highest single day spike of 28,701 cases on Monday.

The silver lining was the overwhelming recoveries. Out of the total 1,12,494 cases, nearly 90,000 patients have now recovered taking the recovery rate to 79.97 per cent. So far, a total of 89,968 patients have recovered in Delhi.

Active cases also declined on Sunday. On Sunday, there were 19,155 active cases. It was 19,895 on Saturday. Home isolation figures are decreasing as well. It has now gone down to 11,059 in the national capital.

Delhi has been resorting to aggressive testing. On Sunday, 21,236 tests were conducted whereas the total number of tests conducted stood at 7,89,853 so far.

Delhi reported 37 deaths on Sunday taking the toll to 3,371. Relieved by the low fatality rate, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal lauded the role of pulse oximeter for patients in home isolation.

“Delhi has been able to minimise deaths of Corona patients in home isolation through this ‘suraksha kavach’ called pulse oximeter. If patients detect that their oxygen is falling then they reach out to us for help. We immediately send oxygen concentrators to their home or take them to a hospital,” he tweeted.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia praised the efforts of coronavirus warriors in improving the situation. He tweeted, “Delhi has seen a reassuring decrease in the number of new cases in the past few weeks. Credit goes to the #CoronaWarriors, doctors & medical teams all over Delhi!”
