Delhi: Recoveries exceeding coronavirus infections new normal in July

New Delhi: Although there was a marginal increase in the daily number of cases from the previous day, the recoveries continued to outnumber the daily infections in Delhi on Tuesday.

It has been happening consistently in the month of July. Since the start of the month, recoveries exceeded fresh infections on most of the days with July 1 and July 6 being the exceptions. As a result, the recovery rate has now gone past 80 per cent.

Delhi recorded 1,606 fresh cases on Tuesday taking the total tally to 1,15,346. On the other hand, 1,924 patients recovered from the coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

Tuesday was the fourth consecutive day when the daily coronavirus cases were recorded in the range of 1,000 and 2,000. The number of cases came down gradually in the last three days – July 11 (1,781), July 12 (1,574) and July 13 (1,246).

The number of active cases is dropping consistently in the last four days. On Tuesday, the active cases were recorded at 18,664, down from 19,017 on the previous day. On Sunday, there were 19,155 active cases. It was 19,895 on Saturday.

The toll has now reached 3,446 with 35 fatalities in the last 24 hours. It was 3,441 on Monday.

As the cases have been declining in the national capital, the occupancy of beds is also going down significantly. The world’s largest Covid care centre, Sardar Patel Covid Care Centre, which has the capacity to accommodate 10,000 patients, has only 180 patients.
