New Delhi: The coronavirus situation is getting better and better with each passing day in Delhi. The recovery rate is now close to 82 per cent with 2,463 people recovering from the disease on Wednesday. 

As a result, the active cases went down by 857 in a single day to 17,807. It was 18,664 on Tuesday. As the month of July progressed, the active cases have gone down consistently. On July 1, there were 27,007 active cases in the national capital.

Wednesday was the fifth consecutive day when new cases were in the range of 1,000-2,000. Delhi recorded 1,647 fresh coronavirus cases taking the tally to 1,16,993. 

Meanwhile, 41 persons succumbed to the disease taking the tally to 3,487.

At present, 9,943 patients are in home isolation. The figure has dropped significantly from the beginning of the month as it was 16,703 on July 1. 

Now, only 4,021 are admitted in hospitals. Almost 74 per cent of the beds are vacant in hospitals. 56 per cent of ventilator beds are also vacant.

Delhi has so far conducted 7,36,436 tests, which is 38,759 tests per million. 22,528 tests were conducted on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday lauded the concerted efforts of all the stakeholders in containing the spread of coronavirus in the national capital. He said that the Delhi government could not have achieved this alone. 

Kejriwal thanked the central government, NGOs, religious organisations, doctors and nurses for their relentless efforts to fight against the coronavirus pandemic. He also thanked Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Indian National Congress (INC).

Kejriwal shared that 2.25 lakh cases were predicted by July 15 but Delhi has now approximately 1.15 lakh cases, of which 18,664 cases are active. He said that the cases are now half of the prediction and it has happened due to united efforts.
