New Delhi: The Union government has launched the cheapest Covid-19 test kit ‘Corosure’, developed by IIT Delhi, which might help in ramping up the testing in the country. It has been launched at a base price of Rs 399.

The kit was approved by the Indian Medical Council of India and Drug Control General of India. Corosure was commercially developed by a company NewTech Medical Devises after taking license from the IIT Delhi.

As per the company, they will be manufacturing two million testing kits by next month.

According to the officials of IIT Delhi, the base price for the kit will be Rs 399. They said even after the adding of the RNA isolation and laboratory charges, the cost will go up to Rs 650, which is still cheaper than the other available kits for coronavirus test.

The kit was launched by HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal. At the launch, he said that the indigenously developed kit is cheaper than other kits. “The country needs cheaper and reliable test kits,” he emphasised.
