New Delhi: Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has prohibited the public celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi and Muharram procession which are due this month. The DDMA appealed to people to celebrate these religious events at home.

The decision was taken keeping the coronavirus pandemic in mind. The Centre had earlier directed prohibition of religious gatherings in public places.

As per the order, idols of Lord Ganesha would not be allowed to set up in a pandal at public places. Ganesh Chaturthi falls on August 22. Likewise, the Muharram procession and Tajiya will not be allowed. People were advised to celebrate the both religious events at their respective homes.

Moreover, the DDMA has asked the district magistrates and DCPs to conduct meetings with religious committees and community leaders before any festival where a large number of people congregate.

The authorities were asked to impose fines for violating the Covid guidelines like wearing masks, social distancing and spitting at public places.
