RWA alleges that complaints made to Delhi Jal Board over water shortage have gone unheard.

MV-I Ext: United India Apartments residents to meet water minister

Residents of United India Apartments, a residential society in Mayur Vihar Phase I Extension, have decided to approach the Delhi water minister next week over water shortage in the society.

The RWA has alleged that despite several complaints to the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) over the past few months, the body has paid no heed to its concerns.

Ummed Singh, secretary of United India Apartments, told City Spidey that the problem started in 2010, when DJB stopped the benefit of 6 kl of water per dwelling per month. “When we sought the Delhi High Court's intervention on the issue, DJB justified itself saying the benefit of 6 kl of free water per month was applicable only until December 2009. But the society was informed about it in October 2014.”

He added that after several meetings with the Delhi government and DJB officials in 2015, DJB assured that it would restart the benefit, providing 20 kl of water per dwelling per month free of cost. “But in the past one year, we have never got that amount of water even for a day,” Singh said.

However, United India Apartments is not the only society facing water shortage. Apartments such as Samachar, Lovely and Vardhman have similar complaints.

NP Radhakrishnan, president of the Samachar Apartments RWA, said, “We maintain a register of the quantity of water supplied. Our records show that the quantity of water promised was never supplied to us.”
