Noida: UPPCB starts collection of sewage samples from 21 highrise societies

Noida: The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) has collected samples of sewage generated from 21 highrise societies in Noida. They collected samples to check whether effluents are being treated as per norms or not.

As per the officials, the samples were collected from highrise societies in sectors 74,75,76,77 and 137 till Monday.

The UPPCB’s move came after the inspection by Noida Authority earlier this month. The authority had found that at least 27 highrise societies did not have sewage treatment plants (STPs). These societies were discharging the effluents directly in the drains.

“When we were collecting the samples, we found some high-rises which did not have an STP at all and were releasing wastewater into the drains. Once the reports are out, we will confirm from the Noida authority if such high-rises have been permitted to operate without an STP under any special provisions and if the authority is treating the wastewater of such high-rises at their terminal,” Praveen Kumar, regional officer, UPPCB, was quoted as saying by the HT.
