New Delhi: Delhi on Wednesday reported 1,693 fresh coronavirus cases, the highest single-day spike in August so far, taking the cumulative tally to 1,65,764. With 17 fatalities, the death toll reached 4,347 in the last 24 hours. 

On Tuesday, the mark of 1,500 new cases were breached after 40 days.

On the other hand, 1,154 patients recovered from the deadly disease on Wednesday. A total of 1,48,897 patients have recovered in the national capital so far. After a long time, the recovery rate dipped below 90 per cent. It stands at 89.82 per cent on Wednesday

The active cases increased by 522 in the national capital. Delhi has now 12,520 active cases. 

The positivity rate climbed to 8.5 per cent. It dropped to 5.2 per cent on August 17.

13,904 rapid antigen tests and 5,912 RTPCR tests were conducted on Wednesday. A total of 19,816 tests have been conducted in the last 24 hours.

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called a meeting at his residence to discuss the recent increase in the coronavirus cases in the national capital. He said that the testing rates would be doubled to around 40,000 per day as a precautionary measure.

“I urge people to keep getting tested. People think they don't have major symptoms so no need to test, please do not do that. Please get tested. If you have Covid, get isolated at home till you're cured. So, please keep getting tested,” Kejriwal said in virtual press conference.
