New Delhi: The drivers of cab aggregators like Ola and Uber have threatened to go on strike from September 1 in the national capital region if their demands are not met.
They have demanded an extension to pay the EMIs of their vehicles, a hike in the per km fare, reduction in commission charged by the companies operating the services and e-challans’ rollback.
As there is shortage of public transport with limited accommodation in city buses and suspension of metro services, the strike could affect thousands of citizens in the national capital.
Sarvodaya Drivers Association of Delhi, a union of Ola-Uber drivers, on Thursday said they will go on strike from September 1 if their demands are not met. Currently, around 2,00,000 cabs attached to the union.
“After the lockdown, our condition had deteriorated. The number of clients has come down to just 10 per cent, as most people are still working from home. The drivers are struggling to make ends meet. We have sent letters to the Prime Minister, the union finance and transport ministers to urge banks to extend the relaxation on paying EMIs till December 31 this year,” Kamaljeet Gill, President, Sarvodaya Drivers Association of Delhi was quoted as saying by the HT.
