Noida: When stepping out is a nightmare

Choked drains, waterlogged streets, standstill traffic and stranded officegoers. When will Noida Authority make good on its promise of better city roads in the monsoons?

Noida: When stepping out is a nightmare

Continuous rains since last night caused major traffic snarls across Noida on Friday morning. Officegoers were seen stranded at many places in the city this morning. With most traffic signals not working, traffic cops were seen stepping in at major intersections of the city.

Traffic on most roads was seen moving at a snail's pace as a result of heavy congestion caused by vehicles coming in from all over the NCR. Both the DND and the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway were choked due to heavy vehicular movement. The intersection from the Sector 18 Metro station, or Atta Market from the Sector 15 Metro Station also faced heavy traffic jam. The situation was the same at the Sector 71 intersection.

Commuters were stuck at one place for several hours. Siddhanth Sharma, a resident of Sector 15A, told City Spidey that the road in front of the sector had been observing heavy traffic since morning.

Choked drains and waterlogged streets have once again exposed the tall claims of Noida Authority, which had been assuring residents that this monsoon things would be better on city roads.

Prabal Pratap Singh, SP (Traffic) Noida, told City Spidey that traffic snarls were a regular problem in Noida, but that the rains had made it worse. "Traffic officials are present at every intersection and the situation will soon be under control," he said.
