Delhi: Fresh coronavirus cases cross 2,000 mark after 51 days

Delhi had recorded its previous highest spike of 1,945 fresh cases in August on Saturday.

New Delhi: Delhi on Sunday reported 2,024 fresh coronavirus cases, which is the highest single-day spike in August, taking the cumulative tally to 1,73,390. With 22 fatalities, the death toll reached 4,426 in the last 24 hours. 

This is the fourth consecutive day when new cases were above 1,800. Also, the new cases reported on Sunday was the highest single-day spike in 51 days. 2,089 new cases were reported on July 10.

Delhi had recorded its previous highest spike of 1,945 fresh cases in August on Saturday.

On the other hand, 1,249 patients recovered from the deadly disease on Sunday. A total of 1,54,171 patients have recovered in the national capital so far. The recovery rate declined below 89 per cent.

The active cases increased by 753 in the national capital. Delhi has now 14,793 active cases. 

The positivity rate has gone up to 9.9 per cent from 8.8 per cent on the previous day. Delhi’s positivity rate had come down to less than 6 per cent in July.

13,555 rapid antigen tests and 6,881 RTPCR, CBNAAT and True NAAT tests were conducted on Saturday. 820 containment zones have been marked in the city.

On Friday, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said that the rise in cases has been because of the patients from the outside seeking treatment in the national capital. As per the Delhi government data, more than 30 per cent of the patients admitted in city hospitals are from other states.
