New Delhi: Delhi on Monday reported 1,358 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the cumulative tally to 1,74,748. With 18 fatalities, the death toll reached 4,444 in the last 24 hours.

The significant dip in new cases came after the highest single-day spike in August on the previous day. Delhi had reported 2,024 new cases on Sunday. It was the highest single-day spike in 51 days. 2,089 new cases were reported on July 10.

On the other hand, recoveries exceeded the new cases after a long gap. 1,507 patients recovered from the deadly disease on Monday. A total of 1,55,678 patients have recovered in the national capital so far.

The active cases declined by 167 in the national capital. Delhi has now 14,626 active cases.

The positivity rate was 9.4 per cent. Delhi’s positivity rate had come down to less than 6 per cent in July. The recovery rate was 89.08 per cent.

At present, Delhi has 15,743 hospital beds available to treat coronavirus patients. 7,876 patients are in home isolation.

The authorities on Monday conducted a relatively lesser number of tests. 14,389 tests were conducted on Monday as opposed to the daily average of 20,000 tests.

With the rise in the number of cases of late, there has been fear that a second wave might have hit the national capital. The Delhi High Court on Monday expressed concern over rising cases in the city. They termed it as worrisome and directed the Delhi government to re-strategise the testing.
