New Delhi: The police on Tuesday said that they have arrested a 28-year-old woman and her aide for staging a robbery at her own house in Shastri Nagar in north Delhi’s Sarai Rohilla.

Rs 2.18 lakh and gold jewellery were robbed from her house, news agency PTI reported.

As per police, the accused had also injured herself and tied herself up to mislead the investigation.

The police have recovered the cash and jewelleries from her aide’s house. Her aide was identified as Jitender who is 30 years old.

The accused was married to 65-year-old Ramesh Kumar. Her mother was working as a maid at Kumar’s house earlier. The marriage happened a month ago.

Kumar is a businessman who had a fan manufacturing unit. But due to the losses, he had to shut down its operations. He was earning money from renting out his properties at many locations, police informed.

The accused had told the police that some unidentified men had barged into the house and injured her with a hammer. She told them that they had looted all the cash and jewellery.

The police took her to a hospital for treatment. “During interrogation, the woman confessed to staging the robbery with Jitender. The team immediately raided his house and recovered the robbed items,” said Anto Alphonse, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North).
