New Delhi: Daily new cases continued its upward trend with more than 3,000 cases reported on Sunday. Delhi recorded 3,256 new cases, the highest single-day spike in 73 days, taking the cumulative tally to 1,91,449.
On Saturday, Delhi had reported 2,973 cases, which was higher than Friday’s figure of 2,914 cases.
On June 26, Delhi had recorded 3,460 new cases, which was the highest single-day spike before September 6. It is the sixth consecutive day when over 2,000 cases have been recorded in Delhi.
2,737 cases were reported on Thursday, while 2,509 and 2,312 cases were recorded on Wednesday and Tuesday respectively. On June 23, the city had recorded its highest single-day spike of 3,947.
With 29 fatalities, the death toll reached 4,567 in the national capital.
The new cases again outnumbered the recoveries by a significant margin. It has affected the active cases in the national capital. Active cases are rising significantly in the last few days.
2,188 patients recovered from the deadly disease on Sunday. A total of 1,65,973 patients have recovered in Delhi so far. The recovery rate further declined to 86.69 per cent from 87.03 on the previous day. Earlier, the recovery rate had gone past 90 per cent and maintained above that mark for many days.
The active cases increased by 1,039 in the national capital. This was the fourth consecutive day when active cases were more than 1,000. Delhi has now 20,909 active cases. It had once dropped below 10,000 mark before the cases started surging again.
36,046 tests were conducted on Sunday. 26,829 rapid antigen tests and 9,217 RTPCR/CBNAAT/TrueNat tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. The testing has been ramped up in the national capital.
