New Delhi: India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said that the monsoon is likely to stay longer in Delhi and there are chances of withdrawal only in the initial days of October. 

The monsoon had arrived on June 25 in the national capital, two days earlier than normal.

As per the official of IMD, the monsoon rain will continue till the end of September according to the extended range forecast. He said that the withdrawal is expected to happen in early October.

Earlier, the weather department had also revised the withdrawal date from September 21 to September 25. The withdrawal date was revised seeing the trend in the last 20-25 years.

The official also informed that light to moderate rainfall is expected in northwest India from September 15. Until then, dry weather conditions will continue in the national capital.

With forecast of rains, the air quality index of Delhi is expected to hover between ‘satisfactory’ and ‘moderate’ categories.

Delhi has received deficient rainfall in September so far. The city has received just 21 mm of rainfall, as against the normal of 62 mm rainfall. There is a deficiency of 67 per cent this month.
