New Delhi: With 4,000 daily new cases becoming new normal in Delhi, it can be inferred that the coronavirus situation has surely deteriorated and proper attention needs to be given on it. The situation has continuously gone from bad to worse in the last ten days. Now, it is looking even worse than the last wave.
The recent upsurge has happened with the increased activities in Delhi. Delhi metro services, markets and pubs have been opened. Suddenly, it has become an alarm for the authorities to have a stern look at the decision.
As part of the strategy to check the spread of coronavirus, testing has been increased by the government in the national capital. The Delhi government has made all possible arrangements to test as many people as they can. They aim to check the spread with increased testing. They have made new arrangements for people to go for tests. Now, Mohalla Clinics are also being used to test people. Also, the government has announced that there will be no requirement for doctor’s prescription for tests.
56,656 tests were conducted on Sunday. Out of that, 10,116 RTPCR/CBNAAT/TrueNat and 46,540 rapid antigen tests were conducted. With the positivity rate of 7.48 per cent, 4,235 people were tested positive for infection. The city’s cumulative tally has now reached 2,18,304.
Delhi had recorded 4,321 new cases on Saturday. It was the highest single-day spike ever recorded in the national capital. On Friday, 4,266 new cases were recorded. However, on Thursday, the city had recorded its highest single-day spike of 4,308 new cases. The records were broken on both Thursday and Wednesday. Before the recent upsurge, the earlier record of 3,947 new cases were recorded on June 23.
The situation has deteriorated with almost all the parameters showing signs of worsening. The new cases have dominated the recoveries by a big margin in the last ten days. 3,054 patients recovered from the deadly disease in the last 24 hours. It has taken the total recovery figure to 1,84,748. The recovery rate is 84.62. It has come down after going past the 90 per cent mark and being there for many days.
The active cases increased by 753 on Sunday. There are 28,812 active cases in the national capital. It had gone below the mark of 10,000 not too long ago. Moreover, with 29 fatalities, the death toll has reached 4,744 in Delhi.
Meanwhile, the Delhi government has asked 28 private hospitals to reserve 80 per cent of the total ICU or HDU beds for Covid patients. “In the recent past, there has been a surge in the number of Covid cases and it has been observed that the majority of ICU beds in private hospitals are fully occupied. Therefore, to augment ICU bed capacity for Covid-19 patients, the hospitals… are directed to reserve 80% of their total ICU/HDU beds for such patients… with immediate effect,” reads the health department circular.
The circular also stated that the listed hospitals are allowed to increase their total bed capacity up to 30 per cent and are to be used for Covid patients only.
