New Delhi: After registering more than 4,000 new cases on five days in a trot, Delhi recorded 3,229 cases on Monday, taking the cumulative tally to 2,21,533. With 26 fatalities, the death toll reached 4,770 in the last 24 hours.

The sudden drop in new cases has come as a breather but it has happened with lesser number of tests conducted in the last 24 hours. In the last 24 hours, 44,884 tests were conducted in the national capital. Out of which, 9,859 were RTPCR/CBNAAT/TrueNat tests and 35,025 were rapid antigen tests.

A record 60,580 tests were conducted last Friday, followed by 60,076 on Saturday. Around six lakh tests have been conducted in the last two weeks. The average in the same period has been more than 42,000 per day. 

As part of the strategy to check the spread of coronavirus, testing has been increased by the government in the national capital. The Delhi government has made all possible arrangements to test as many people as they can. They have made new arrangements for people to go for tests. Now, Mohalla Clinics are also being used to test people. Also, the government has announced that there will be no requirement for doctor’s prescription for tests.

Meanwhile, recoveries exceeded new cases after a long gap on Monday. 3,374 people recovered in the last 24 hours. The number of recoveries on a single day has gone up of late. It has been above 3,000 in the last few days. The recovery rate now stands at 84.91 per cent, slightly up from 84.62 per cent on the previous day.  

The active cases declined after many days on Monday. It had been rising continuously by more than 1,000 in the last few days. The active cases declined by 171 in the last 24 hours. There are 28,641 active cases in Delhi. The number of active cases has almost doubled since August end. It was 14,626 on August 31 and 28,641 on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was found positive of coronavirus infection. Apart from him, three other Aam Aadmi Party MLAs were also found positive. They are Girish Soni, Pramila Tokas and Vishesh Ravi. 

On the other hand, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal praised the Delhi model of treatment and containment of coronavirus patients. He hailed the aggressive testing being done in the national capital by saying that the number of tests being conducted are unmatched not only in the country but in the entire world.
