Delhi to become first city in country to roll out BS-VI public buses

New Delhi: Delhi is all decked up to become the first city in the country to operate BS-VI compliant public buses by the end of this month.

First batch of BS-VI compliant buses will be rolled out in September. A total of 116 BS-VI compliant buses will be inducted in the Cluster Scheme fleet over the next few months.

Air-conditioned, low-floor and CNG-run buses will be equipped with Smart Card Tracking System, Real Time Passenger Information System, Intelligent Transport Management System, CCTVs, wheel-chair ramps and other facilities.

Bharat Stage (BS) are emission standards that regulate the emission of pollutants by motor vehicles. Most of the buses that are operating in the city at present, are BS-IV compliant. However, after April 1, 2020, only the BS-VI compliant buses are being registered in the city.

A Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) official said, “Inspection is being carried out on nine of these buses at present. They would be the first BS-VI compliant public transport buses in the country. The buses are being supplied by JBM Auto Ltd.”
