New Delhi: Delhi on Friday reported 4,127 fresh cases, taking the cumulative tally to 2,38,828. In the last ten days, more than 4,000 new cases have been recorded in nine days. On Wednesday, Delhi had recorded the highest single-day spike of 4,473 new cases. 

Delhi had registered 4,432 cases on Thursday, 4,473 cases on Wednesday, 4,263 cases on Tuesday, 3,229 cases on Monday, 4,235 cases on Sunday, 4,321 cases on Saturday, 4,266 cases on Friday. Before the recent upsurge, the earlier record of 3,947 new cases were recorded on June 23.       

Testing has been ramped up in the national capital. Friday was another day when more than 60,000 tests were conducted. It was the fourth consecutive day when more than 60,000 tests were conducted. 49,834 rapid antigen tests and 11,203 RTPCR, CBNAAT and True Nat tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. A total of 61,037 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. As on Friday, the number of tests done per million was over 1,27,927 while the total number of tests stood at 24,30,629.

Here are the number of tests conducted and the respective fresh cases being registered in the period of September 1-17: 14,389 (1,358); 20,437 (2,024); 24,198 (2,312); 28,835 (2,509); 32,834 (2,737); 36,219 (2,914) 38,895 (2,973); 36,046 (3,256); 22,954 (2,077); 45,797 (3,609); 54,517 (4,039); 58,340 (4,308); 60,580 (4,266); 60,076 (4,321); 56,656 (4,235); 44,884 (3,229); 62,669 (4,263); 62,593 (4,473) and 60,014 (4,432).

The fatalities due to coronavirus has also increased in Delhi of late. On Friday, 30 deaths were reported from the city. It took the death toll to 4,907. On Thursday, 38 deaths were reported from the city, which was the highest daily spike in the number of deaths in the two months.

New cases again outnumbered the recoveries. It has been happening on a consistent basis except on Monday. 3,568 patients recovered from the deadly disease in the last 24 hours. Now, a total of 2,01,671 patients have recovered in the city.

The number of recoveries on a single day has gone up of late. It has been above 3,000 in the last few days. The recovery rate slightly increased to 84.44 per cent from 84.40 on the previous day. The recovery rate has come down after going past the 90 per cent mark earlier and being there for many days.

The active cases increased by 529 in Delhi on Thursday. The total number of active cases increased to 32,250 in the last 24 hours. Of the total 14,521 beds available for treatment in the city, 6,783 are vacant. 

As the cases have risen continuously this month, the Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Friday directed officials to draw fresh policy for the containment zone as more than 4,000 cases have been reported on a daily basis. In the meeting, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Member of Niti Aayog Dr VK Paul, Director of AIIMS Dr Randeep Guleria, DG ICMR Dr Balram Bhargava and other officers were present. The LG told the officials to jointly prepare a blueprint for re-strategising containment zone policy to reduce positivity and mortality rate.
