New Delhi: After almost a week, Delhi on Sunday reported less than 4,000 cases. In the last 12 days, it is only the second time when the city has recorded less than 4,000 cases. On September 14, less than 4,000 cases were reported the last time.
Delhi on Sunday recorded 3,812 new cases, taking the cumulative tally to 2,46,711. Delhi had registered 4,071 cases on Saturday, 4,127 cases on Friday, 4,432 cases on Thursday, 4,473 cases on Wednesday, 4,263 cases on Tuesday and 3,229 cases on Monday.
But the downfall in new cases has happened with a lesser number of tests conducted in the last 24 hours. 52,405 tests were conducted on Sunday. It included 41,083 rapid antigen tests and 11,322 RTPCR/CBNAAT/TrueNat tests.
The number of tests, conducted in the city, were below 60,000 mark after five days. Saturday was the fifth consecutive day when more than 60,000 tests were conducted. The number of tests conducted and respective fresh cases being reported in the period of September 15-19 are – 62,669 (4,263); 62,593 (4,473); 60,014 (4,432) and 61,037 (4,127) 61,973 (4,071). On September 14, 44,884 tests were conducted and 3,229 cases were reported.
5.92 lakh tests have been conducted in the last 10 days at an average of more than 59,000 tests a day. The number of total tests conducted was 19,62,120 on September 10. It increased to 25,55,007 on Sunday. The positivity rate during was 7.27 per cent on Sunday, while the cumulative positivity rate was 9.66 per cent.
The new cases again dominated the recoveries on Sunday. 3,742 patients recovered from the deadly disease in the last 24 hours. A total of 2,09,632 patients have recovered in the national capital so far. The daily recovery figures have been above 3,000 in the last few days. The recovery rate slightly increased to 84.97 from 84.76 on the previous day.
The active cases increased by 33 in the last 24 hours. Delhi has now 32,097 active cases. With the recent upsurge in cases, more than 60 per cent of ICU beds, with or without ventilator support, are occupied at both public and private hospitals designated for treatment of coronavirus patients. Out of the total 8,137 beds in dedicated Covid centres, 1,937 were occupied.
However, the worrying factor has been an increase in the number of deaths of late. On Sunday, 37 deaths were reported from the city, taking the toll to 4,982. Earlier, 38, 30 and 38 deaths were reported on Saturday, Friday and Thursday respectively. Highest daily spike in the number of deaths in the two months was reported on Thursday.
