New Delhi: During the 153rd Board Meeting, Minister of Water and Chairman of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) Satyendar Jain on Thursday passed several projects aimed to improve water and sewer network in the national capital.
One of the key decisions was to award the contract to private operators for operation, maintenance and management of water supply and sewerage networks in various zones of Delhi, on the lines of ‘One Zone-One Operator’. The decision was taken to improve the services and bring efficiency in the management of water supply in the city.
The operators will be appointed for a period of 10 years under ‘One Zone-One Operator’ schemes. The DJB has the responsibility to procure raw water, treat and supply to all the five local bodies – 3 MCDs, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and Delhi Cantonment Board (DCB). DJB manages about 14,500 km of water lines and 9000 km of sewer lines in the city.
Apart from this, the board also approved a simplified process for new connection of water/sewer. Now, only online applications will be accepted for new connections. The people, who cannot apply online, can take help of the facility of Mobile Sahayak under door step delivery of public services by calling 1076.
The applicant can submit one of the identity documents and three months of paid electricity bills along with self-declaration/undertaking for obtaining water/sewer connection from DJB.
Delhi Jal Board also approved construction of ‘Decentralized Sewage Treatment Plant’ at Kanjhawala Village in 20,000 sqm. DJB approved the proposal to install 200 tube wells in the flood plains of Palla in a phased manner.
