New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday announced that the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has started the process to appoint a consultant that would be suggesting ways to reduce the water wastage and provide inputs on adopting the best practices in water management.
Emphasising on the wastage of water in the city, Kejriwal said that Delhi consumes 930 million gallons (MGD) of water every day, which translates into a consumption of 176 litre per person per day.
The CM said that the consumption of water is not less. He said, “Currently, there is no accountability of 930 MGD water in the city. A lot of it either gets stolen or wasted through leakages. We are in the process to appoint a consultant who would suggest ways to reduce water wastage.”
“The consultant would also suggest the latest technology available across the globe to put in place a hi-tech, automated and real-time water management system,” he continued.
The decision has come after the DJB announced the approval of a ‘One Zone-One Operator’ policy for efficient management of water supply in the city.
The operators will be appointed for a period of 10 years under the scheme. The DJB has the responsibility to procure raw water, treat and supply to all the five local bodies – 3 MCDs, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and Delhi Cantonment Board (DCB).
