Coronavirus active cases drop significantly with high recoveries in Delhi

New Delhi: Delhi on Monday recorded 1,984 new coronavirus cases, which is lowest in nearly a month. The figure is lowest since August 31 when the city had recorded 1,358 new cases. The new cases count has gone down with a lesser number of tests conducted. 36,302 tests were conducted on the previous day. 

In September, cases have been in the range of over 2,000 to 4,473. The highest single-day spike of 4,473 new cases were recorded on September 16.

After peaking till September 16, the new cases have come down relatively in the national capital. Delhi recorded 3,292 fresh cases on Sunday, 3,372 on Saturday, 3,827 on Friday, 3,834 on Thursday, 3,714 on Wednesday and 3,816 on Tuesday.

36,302 tests were conducted, of which 7,672 were RTPCR/CBNAAT/TrueNat tests and 28,630 were rapid antigen tests. 51,416 tests were conducted on Saturday, 57,688 on Friday, 59,134 tests Thursday, 59,183 on Wednesday, 59,580 on Tuesday, 59,013 on Monday. 

The number of tests done per million, as on Monday, was over 1.55 lakh while the total number of tests done so far stood at over 29.61 lakh.

With the reporting of lesser number of new cases and high number of recoveries, the active cases came down significantly in the last 24 hours. Active cases declined by 2,105 on Monday. Delhi has now 27,123 active cases. The active cases have continuously declined in the last few days. It had crossed 30,000 mark when the cases peaked in the city.

The national capital continues to see a high number of recoveries of late. On Monday, 4,052 patients recovered in the city. Now, out of the total 2,73,098 infections reported so far, 2,40,703 patients have recovered in the national capital. The recoveries have been above the 3,000 mark consistently. 

The recovery rate has been increasing continuously in the last few days. It was recorded on 88.13 per cent on Monday. It had gone below 85 per cent a few days back. 

Meanwhile, the coronavirus deaths continued to be a worrying factor in the city. The fatalities have increased of late. On Monday, 37 deaths were reported due to the deadly disease. The toll has now reached 5,272. Before Monday, more than 40 deaths were reported on two days. 

In September, there were 828 deaths, which is around 40 per cent more than the number of fatalities reported in August. 481 deaths were recorded in August. A total of 15,828 beds are available for COVID-19 in different hospitals in the city. Of these, 6,609 have been occupied. Around 16,679 Covid patients are under home isolation.
