Delhi reports lowest new cases since August-end; recovery rate above 90 pc

New Delhi: Delhi reported relatively lesser number of new coronavirus cases in comparison to last few days and it happened with lesser number of tests conducted on the previous day. With 1,947 fresh cases, the cumulative tally reached 2,92,560 on Monday. It was the lowest figure since August-end. The number of new cases reported came out of 35,593 tests conducted on the previous day.

The new cases slipped below 2,000 mark after remaining below 3,000 mark for three consecutive days. The new cases have dropped below 2,000 mark only on two occasions in the last 35 days. Delhi recorded 2,683 fresh cases on Sunday, 2,258 on Saturday, 2,920 on Friday, 3,037 on Thursday, 3,390 on Wednesday, 3,227 on Tuesday and 1,984 on Monday.

35,593 tests were conducted, of which 7,585 were RTPCR/CBNAAT/TrueNat tests and 28,008 were rapid antigen tests. The positivity rate increased to 5.47 per cent from 5.28 per cent on the previous day. 50,832 tests were conducted on Saturday, 39,306 on Friday, 56,258 on Thursday, 55,423 on Wednesday, 59,807 on Tuesday, 59,102 on Monday and 36,302 on Sunday.

32 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll has now reached 5,542. 38 deaths were reported on Sunday, 34 on Saturday, 37 on Friday, 40 on Thursday and 41 on Wednesday. On Tuesday, 48 deaths were reported, which was the highest single-day fatalities since July 16.

On the other hand, Delhi reported more than 3,000 recoveries in the last 24 hours. 3,588 patients recovered from the deadly disease, taking the total recovery figure to 2,63,938 in the national capital. The recovery rate increased to 90.21 per cent from 89.58 per cent on the previous day.

The recoveries outnumbered the new cases by a significant margin on Sunday. It affected the active cases positively. Active cases declined by 1,673 in the city. Delhi has now 23,080 active cases. The active cases have come down in the last few days after crossing the 30,000 mark during the last upsurge in cases.

Out of the total number of 15,832 beds in COVID hospitals, 10,030 are vacant. The number of people in home isolation declined to 13,905 from 14,700 on the previous day.
