New Delhi: Delhi’s fatality count rose significantly as 48 patients died due to coronavirus on Saturday. On September 29, 48 fatalities were recorded, which was the highest daily number of deaths recorded since July 16. The death toll has now reached 5,740.
38 deaths were reported on Friday, 37 on Thursday, 35 on Wednesday, 39 on Tuesday, 32 on Monday and 38 on Sunday.
For the straight ninth day, Delhi reported less than 3,000 new coronavirus cases. Delhi on Saturday reported 2,866 new cases, taking the cumulative tally to 3,06,559. The number of new cases reported came out of 49,736 tests conducted on the previous day.
Delhi recorded 2,860 new cases on Friday, 2,726 on Thursday, 2,871 on Wednesday, 2,676 fresh cases on Tuesday, 1,947 on Monday, 2,683 on Sunday and 2,258 on Saturday.
49,736 tests were conducted, of which 10,384 were RTPCR/CBNAAT/TrueNat tests and 39,352 were rapid antigen tests. The positivity rate slightly declined to 5.76 per cent from 5.83 per cent on the previous day. 49,125 tests were conducted on Thursday, 53,322 on Wednesday, 51,505 on Tuesday, 53,591 on Monday, 35,593 on Sunday and 50,832 on Saturday.
On the other hand, Delhi reported more than 2,700 recoveries in the last 24 hours. 2,766 patients recovered from the deadly disease, taking the total recovery figure to 2,78,812 in the national capital. The recovery rate slightly increased to 90.94 from 90.89 on the previous day.
The new cases outnumbered the recoveries on Saturday. It affected the active cases count negatively. Active cases increased by 52 in the city. Delhi has now 22,007 active cases. The active cases have come down in the last few days after crossing the 30,000 mark during the last upsurge in cases.
Out of the total number of 16,114 beds in COVID hospitals, 10,811 are vacant. The number of containment zones in Delhi slightly dropped to 2,715 from 2,727 on Friday.
